Does my dog really need a sweater or jacket?+β
Small breeds, short-haired breeds, toy breeds, puppies under 6 months, and senior dogs genuinely benefit from a warm sweater or jacket in cold weather. These dogs have limited ability to generate and retain body heat. Dogs that shiver, are reluctant to go outside, or repeatedly lift their paws off cold ground are showing clear signs they are cold. Large, double-coated breeds like Huskies, Malamutes, and German Shepherds have natural insulation and generally do not need clothing in most climates.
How do I measure my dog for pet clothing?+β
Take three measurements. Back length β from the base of the neck (where a collar sits) to the base of the tail. Chest/girth β around the widest point of the chest, just behind the front legs. Neck β around the base of the neck. Compare all three measurements to the specific product size chart β sizing varies significantly between styles. If between sizes, choose the larger size for comfort. Always check the individual product page as sizing charts differ between jumpers, jackets, and raincoats.
Can cats wear pet clothing?+β
Some cats tolerate and even enjoy soft, lightweight clothing β particularly cats raised with clothing from kittenhood, hairless breeds like Sphynx cats that genuinely need warmth, and senior cats who feel the cold. However, many cats find clothing extremely stressful. Never force a cat to wear clothing if they show strong resistance. Always introduce clothing very gradually with positive reinforcement and never leave a cat unsupervised while dressed. Watch for stress signals β freezing, crouching low, or attempting to remove the garment.
Are pet raincoats actually waterproof?+β
Yes β pet raincoats in our collection use water-resistant or waterproof outer fabrics that repel rain effectively during typical wet-weather walks. They are not designed for extended submersion but provide excellent protection during rain showers and wet walks. Over time, water-resistance reduces with wear β reproofing sprays designed for outdoor fabrics can restore water repellency. The inside of quality raincoats is lined with a breathable mesh or soft lining to prevent the dog from overheating during activity.
How should I wash pet clothing?+β
Most pet sweaters and knit garments can be machine-washed on a cold or gentle cycle and laid flat to dry β never tumble dry knit items as high heat causes shrinkage and distortion. Jackets and raincoats should be checked for specific care instructions β most can be machine-washed cold, and air drying preserves waterproof coatings longer than tumble drying. Wash pet clothing regularly as accumulated dirt, bacteria, and odour can cause skin irritation if garments are worn unwashed for extended periods.
