Wash Before First Use
New cotton towels should be machine washed twice before first use β the washing process activates the cotton loop structure, maximising absorbency. First-wash towels are noticeably less absorbent than correctly prepared ones; this simple step makes a significant functional difference from the first use.

Never Use Fabric Softener
Fabric softener coats cotton fibres with a waxy residue that progressively reduces absorbency with each application β the opposite of what a bath towel should do. Use half a cup of white vinegar in the rinse cycle instead: it naturally softens cotton fibres without affecting absorbency, and is significantly cheaper than fabric softener.

Don't Overfill the Washing Machine
